Flights to Israel
Cheap flights Israel
If you’re looking for cheap flights to Israel then you have 2 options: the first one is to wait for big tickets discounts like companies usually do after the holidays in the end of January, beginning of February or the second option is to find a low cost airline company.
The low cost airline companies started as internal airline companies in the US and later appeared also in Europe. If you ask yourself how do these companies offer such cheap flights here are some facts you need to know about low cost companies:
1. Low cost companies have only an economy class tickets.
2. They have only one airplane model.
3. You cant refund or change you ticket
4. They fly to secondary air ports
5. They usually fly for short distances
6. They sell their tickets through the internet or the phone
7. You need to pay for all extras
Low cost companies offer their cheap tickets to Israel only on the UK-Israel line for now. So if you want to buy cheap tickets to Israel from a low cost company you better come through the UK, but as we wrote in the beginning one can sometimes find even cheaper tickets through the regular airline companies at certain times.
London Israel flights
London Israel flights are among the most popular flights line to and from Israel. The reason is that London is a very attractive city for Israelis but more important is the reason that a lot of people who come to visit Israel from NA are flying through London.
As for today you can find Direct London Israel flights with ELAL, British Midland or British Airways. There are many indirect flights you can find as well like: Cyprus Airways, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Air France, Swiss and more.
For many months there are talks about the “Open Skies” law that is supposed to pass in the Israeli parliament allowing cheap airline companies to compete in the direct London Israel flights market, companies like Easyjet and others but as for today you cant find tickets of these companies from London to Israel. The main problem is the monopoly of Elal and when this problem will be solved also cheap Israel airline companies like Arkia and Israir will be able to compete in this line.
El Al Israel airlines
El Al Israel Airlines is the national airline of Israel. It operates regular international passenger and cargo flights between its hub at Ben Gurion International Airport and destinations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, as well as domestic connections to Eilat. If you ever been an Israeli man abroad while a war break in Israel then you probably know how helpful El Al is for Israeli citizens that need to join the army during a war. El Al will always find a place for them on the plan and usually won’t charge them for the flight.
El Al started flying in September 1948 and became the former national carrier of Israel, El Al has played an important role in Israel’s humanitarian rescue efforts, airlifting Jews from Ethiopia, Yemen, and other countries where their lives were at risk.
In the last decade El Al is fighting for its survival while our world is becoming more connected and where globalization is everything. Many international airlines companies are competing with El Al offering cheaper flights to and from Israel, including other Israeli companies like Arkia and Israir. The monopoly of El Al becomes even more jeopardized with the attempts of the Israeli parliament to establish an “Open Sky” policy. If and when these laws will pass El Al will find itself competing against very cheap European airlines like Easy Jet and others.
Some Israelis and Jews around to world still choose to fly El Al as an act of support in the Israeli market and in the state of Israel. But in a more and more global world and with the economic crisis price becomes a bigger issue.
Israel attractions
Israel is a land of many attractions: historical, spiritual, health attractions, nature attractions and almost any kind of attractions one can think of. And of course there are the people who are the main attraction sometime, since Israel is a land of many cultures and one can find in it almost any kind of food or tradition that there are in the world.
If I think of it, only to describe all of the attractions in Jerusalem or in the Dead Sea would take a mini book to write. But I thought to start with the most popular ones and to continue to the less known ones. And what better attraction there is in Israel than the ancient city of Jerusalem. So that would be my first Israel attraction and I’ll see how to keep going from there – if you have any ideas or attractions you want me to write about – please feel free to contact me.
Jerusalem tours: Places to visit in the ancient city.
It doesn’t matter in what time of year you take a tour to Jerusalem; it will always fill you with a strong feeling of awe and delight. The noises of the market, the prayers in the ancient Western Wall, the numerous churches, mosques and museums turns the ancient city to a major attractions among all the Israel attractions.
In order to truly enjoy the tour take at least half a day to visit the major sites.
If you come by car you can park in the underground parking lot near the gate of Yaffo. If you come by bus, take the number 1 bus from the central bus station to the gate of Yaffo which was built in the year of 1538 together with the rest of the walls and the gates of the ancient city. It is considered one of the most important gates in the wall and in the past the road that came out of it lead straight to Jaffa and that’s why it is called the Yaffo gate (Jaffa gate in Hebrew). When you turn to the south you will see on your right the famous David Citadel which you should pay a visit to – click here for more details.
When you finish the visit to the citadel you’ll continue down the road that you were on and you’ll see a police station to your right. This used to be the Turkish police station when the Turks controlled Jerusalem. Down the road you’ll see the Zion gate and if you’ll walk outside of it you will come to the grave of King David and above it the Cenacle that held the Last supper of Jesus and his Twelve Apostles and disciples.
After the visit in the grave you can go back through the Zion gate and climb on the wall (you’ll need to pay for it) and walk with it until the Ashpatot gate (the south entrance to the ancient city). From there it’s a short walk to the Western Wall, the only historical remnant from the wall that surrounded the holy temple. One of the greatest attractions is the caves that go under the Western Wall, you’ll have to book the tour in advance but its truly worth it . From there you should go back towards the Yaffo gate and look for the market in the Christian quarter where you must try to get the lowest prices for the souvenirs that you want to buy.
You can end your tour in one of the amazing restaurants near the market.
Dead Sea spa
One of the main reasons to visit the Dead Sea while you are in Israel is the health benefits that this place has to offer. And if we are talking health what can be better than a Dead Sea spa?
There are 3 really good Dead Sea spas that are worth a visit:
The best one is the Daniel Dead Sea hotel’s spa. In this spa you can find anything you can ever want from a spa: a pool, a Jacuzzi, a Turkish Hamam, Saunas and other unique facilities in the first floor and above it a whole health and beauty treatments floor. The professional health team of the hotel offers a selection of health and beauty treatments in the tradition of the Far East together with the unique Dead Sea treatments.
Another good Dead Sea spa is the Morih Plaza Dead Sea Hotel’s spa. This is a high quality spa offering a wide range of beauty and health care facilities: an outdoor swimming pool with water from the Dead Sea, a gym, a sauna and a Jacuzzi.
Some say that I left the best for last, although I personally prefer the previous 2 spas but another luxurious spa (some say the most luxurious in the region) is the mineral spa of the Meridiaen Dead Sea hotel so make sure to check it out as well so you can decide for yourself.
Car rental in Israel
Car rental is very convenient in Israel. You can find a car rental agency in almost every city. The prices are not expansive and there’s a good chance that you’ll know the company you rent from, since most care rental companies in Israel are a branch of an international car rental company.
Before you rent a car in Israel there are a few things you need to know:
A day of rent = 24 hours. So if you’ll be late by one hour in returning the car they’ll charge you for another day. So if you plan to return the car later then the end of the 24 hours make sure to tell it to the person you rent from and usually they’ll agree to charge you only for the extra hour or two.
Car insurance – Make sure that your rental contract includes an invalid car insurance.
Full tank – Just like in most of the western world, most companies will ask you to return the car with a full tank or else they’ll charge you for the gas price and it will be much more expansive than the regular gas price.
In order to rent a car you must have an international driver licence, you need to be over 21 and have at least 2 years of driving experience.
In most cities you can rent a car for one day but in Eilat you’ll usually need to take the car for at least 3 days.
The prices that companies will publish usually don’t include V.A.T which is 15.5% as for today.
You are not allowed to drive a rented car outside of Israel: Egypt, Jordan, Gaza or Jericho.
Car Rental Tel Aviv Israel
You can find many places to rent a car in Tel Aviv.
One of the leading car rental agencies is Avis which has two branches in Tel Aviv: The first one is located in a Yarkon st. 113 and is open from 8AM to 6PM Sunday- Thursday and to 2PM on Friday.
The second one is located in the Hilton hotel next to Atzmaot Park and is open from 8AM to 5PM Sunday – Monday and until noon on Friday.
Another good car rental company is Eldan which offers a bug variety of car models. The Tel Aviv branch is located at a Yarkon st. 114 and is open from 8AM to 6PM Sunday- Thursday and to 2PM on Friday just like the Avis branch which is located in the next building. If you have the time you can check out both Avis and Eldan for the best price on the car model you desire.
Another car rental company you’ll might want to check out is Suncar which is located at the Yarkon st. 200. The opening hours are 8:45AM to 5:30PM Sunday- Thursday and until 1:30PM on Friday.
When you rent a car in Israel, you can find a huge variety of cars from Chevrolet to Mazda, Jeeps or Vans – you don’t need to compromise but you can use the opportunity to drive the car you always wanted but never got a chance to buy.
Car Rental Haifa Israel
If you plan to travel the North of Israel, renting a car in Haifa can be a very good idea.
The variety of cars is more or less the same as in any big city and the prices are sometime cheaper than renting a car at the airport or in Tel Aviv.
In Haifa you can find a few good car rental companies as Suncar which is located at 131 Yaffo st. Opening hours are 9AM to 5:30PM Sunday – Thursday and Friday until 1:30PM. Suncar offers a huge variety of car models and its prices are pretty convenient.
The international and very familiar and reliable car rental company Avis also has a branch in Haifa at 2 Pal Yam st. Opening hours is from 8AM to 6PM Sunday – Thursday and until 2PM Friday.
Most of you probably know Avis so there is no need to load you with details.
Another good international rental company is Hertz which is located at 104 Histadrot st. Near the famous Check Post junction.
If you plan to rent a car in the North be prepared to meet some high speed Israeli drivers which find it easier to drive faster in the empty Northern roads. And that’s why there is a bigger chance to get caught by a policeman for speeding so please drive carefully and according to the law.
Car Rental Jerusalem Israel
If you plan to rent a car in Jerusalem you’ll be happy to know that you have a few good options:
The first one is the international Avis Company that has 3 branches in Jerusalem – the first one is at 22 King David st. Opening hours are from 8AM to 6PM Sunday-Thursday and until 1PM on Friday.
The second one is at 21 Yermiahu st. Opening hours are from 8AM to 5PM Sunday-Thursday and until 1PM on Friday.
The third one is at 26 Moshe Baraam st. in the industrial area of Talpiut. Opening hours are from 8AM to 5PM Sunday-Thursday and until 1PM on Friday.
If you are a religious Jew and you don’t drive during Shabbat then you don’t have to pay for Shabbats when you rent a car in one of the “Kosher” car rental agencies like Aviv. Aviv’s Jerusalem branch is located at 92 Agripas st. Opening hours are from 8:30AM to 6:30PM Sunday-Thursday.
Another good rental company is Eldan which also has 3 branches in Jerusalem:
The first one is at 24 King David st. just next to the Avis branch. The second one is at 22 Givat Shaul st. (Beit Ha Dfos) and the third one is at the 17 Oman st. in the Lev Talpiut mall.
Visiting Israel? Places to visit in the Western Galilee
On your way north, you can take a short break with a nice trip for a romantic couple, a loving family or just people who like fresh air. 3 places to visit in 3 nice and short trips you can take in the western Galilee.
The French Emperor and a Goat Diary Tour
Next to the train tracks on the eastern side of Akko you can find a unique path to Mount Napoleon. From the mount you can watch over Akko and its harbour from a very unfamiliar angle. Standing on the mount you can watch over the Medetiranin and its coasts, the Haifa bay, the Zevulun valley and the mountains of the Galilee.
Akko, one of the ancient port cities in the world, sat in, ancient times, on this small Mount that got his name from the unimpressive visit of Napoleon Bonaparte that failed in conquering the city. Even though the Caesar and his troops didn’t manage to go through the city’s walls a huge iron statue of Bonaparte riding his horse towards the city stands on the Mount.
On the road between Akko and Nahariya, lies Kibbutz Shomrat, right next to the Bahá’í World Centre, green fields and an aqueduct. In Shomrat you will find a small but very special goat diary. Where you can take a free tour and buy some of the finest goat cheese, yogurts and other goat’s milk products.

How many times did you get a chance to walk on a beautiful rocky coast with lagoons and natural pools of water? You can do that in an easy walking path on the coast of Akhziv and feel the spray of salty water on your face for 3 miles. The river of honey
The Peki’in stream takes its course down the slops of Mount Meiron from Beit Jan to Akhziv. In the low part of the stream, in the middle of a beautiful valley one can find a path that takes him through many gardens to a grave of a righteous man.
You should par next to Peki’in bridge and go south, down the terraces in the fields. On your right you’ll see a garden of pomegranates, next to it you’ll find another garden of peppers and tomatoes and after a few hundred yards you’ll come to a hidden spring of water, between the rocks.
Go up the mountain, just above the spring, where you’ll find the grave of Oshaia Ish Tiria that on him it was said that “when he died, they saw his bed floating in the air and the angels leading him to heaven”.
How to get there: take the 884 road to the Peki’in bridge.
In the valley oh Peki’in, just down the slopes of Mount Miron you can find the “garden beehive”, the path to there is rounding between olive trees until it reaches the huge tent where you’ll taste the hot black coffee and listen to the stories of Abu Dvash, the owner of the beehive.
After you’ll drink the coffee, you’ll get a chance to buy as much honey as you want, watch the goats and the chickens playing and even ride one of the 2 camels that Abu Dvash got as a present from a Bedouin Sheikh.
How do you get there: 1.2 miles before Peki’in on the road from Hossen to Peki’in.
When : anytime.

Places to visit in Israel: Amram Valley
Amram valley is one of the most beautiful places in the mountains of Eilat. But the trip I am writing about isn’t an easy one. It will take you around 7-8 hours of walking (it’s a 7.5 miles walk) so its better to take it between November to April so it wont be too hot. If you are going to do it in the Winter pay attention to floods in the desert.
Amram valley is located about 6.2 miles north to the city of Eilat. If you are taking road number 90 you’ll need to turn west to a dirt road that leads to Amram valley and Amram pillars. After 1.5 miles drive you’ll get to a crossroad, take right and drive for another 1.2 miles. When you reach the parking lot and after you’ll ask the driver to wait for you next to the seismograph station in 7-8 hours, you take the path south towards Mount Amir (just follow the signs). After climbing 0.12m the path takes a sharp left up a small canyon after another 0.12m it takes 90 degrees to the south-west towards the copper mines of Mount Amir. On the right of you’ll see a magnificent small ridge of white sandstone. The 0.75m climb ends at the footsteps of a white sandstone cliff. This is the entrance to the Roman copper mines of Mount Amir.
The path will take you northwest up the slop and down the slop on the other side through a gap in the mines cliff. When you’ll reach the other side you’ll face a crossroad of 2 paths: one taking left to Shahrot stream and the other right to where we are going to. You can walk left a few minutes in order to get a view of the Eilat bay, the southern Arava, Aqaba, Mount Solomon and Mount Hezekiah.
In the end, you took right and came to a narrow and straight valley with beautiful mix of coloured sand that makes the walls of the valley. In the end of the colourful valley the path will take you west (your left) to the saddles between mount Amram and Mount Amir. In this crossroad you’ll see a path marked in red going right – to the north and down to the Amram valley and another path marked black going northwest to the Amram observatory. We will go to the observatory, climbing and then going down the slop for 0.3m until we meet another path that came from Amram pillars. We’ll climb with the path (now marked blue) for another 0.36m until we reach another crossroad on a saddle and from there continue with a red path going right until we reach the AMAZING Amram observatory where you’ll get to see one of the most beautiful sights you ever saw.
After taking some pictures and smoking a cigarette and of course drinking a lot of water, we’ll take the red path north which takes us close to the cliff’s edge (you can take a pick just be careful) for another 0.6m until we reach Poa hill. Another 0.6m of walking will bring you to the beginning of a descending path and after another 0.4m you’ll reach a stream channel in the bottom of Amram valley. After a few yards it will take a 90 degrees turn to the east and the colours of the valley will change from white to red.
In the stream channel there is always shade so you can stop for a rest and a meal if you want. After another few yards the cannel will take a sharp turn to the north and get much wider. You walk north for another 0.2m and then the channel takes right until it reaches a high waterfall, you go around the waterfall and climb towards the seismographic station.
Travel Tours Israel: Zikhron Ya’akov
Many of the tourists that come to Israel never thought about visiting Zikhron Ya’akov (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zikhron_Ya%27akov) but I personally think that place definitely deserves a visit. If you like good chocolate, beautiful beaches or some European atmosphere then you should stop by Zikhron Ya’akov.
Zikhron Ya’akov is a piece of history, a remnant of 19th century.
Just next to Zikhron you can find Benyamina and in Benyamina you’ll find the amazing chocolate store of Avital where you can spoil yourself a bit. With the chocolates you should head to Ramat Hanadiv where you’ll find the Baron garden, the Israeli answer to the Versailles gardens. Its not the same but it’s the closest to Europe that you’ll feel in Israel. In the planning of this garden the appropriate location of each plant was considered carefully so the visitor can enjoy each and every splendid odour:
lavenders, rosemaries, palms and more. You don’t need to pay for your visit.
When you’ll feel hungry you should head to the Meyasdim street, Zikhron’s pedestrian mall where you’ll find many good restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops.
Now it’s the time to choose your thing:
Are you the extreme type? Because if you are then you should try the Paradive’s (http://www.paradive.co.il/english.shtml )skydiving experience. In second thought you’ll might want to try it before lunch.
If you come from the mid west and after 3 days in Israel you already miss your horse or if you just like riding horses, a great way to tour Israel is by horse riding. It can be an hour ride or a few days ride – its up to you. Check out Mechora Ranch (http://www.mechora.co.il/page.asp?ID=17 ) for more details.
Or you can just drive to watch the sunset in one of the most beautiful beaches in Israel – Ha Bonim beach. You’ll have to pay for entrance if you come by car and you cant enter the water since it’s a nature reserve area but what you’ll find there is worth the trip to Moshav Ha Bonim: hidden corners, lagoons, small pools of water, remains of a sunken ship and more. You should plan about an hour or more of a comfortable trip.
