With all that has happened as a result of our support (the 1974 oil embargo, the escalating hatred for America by muslims), why does America continue to support Israel? Why does America grant more aid to Israel than any other country (per capita)? Given the GNP, shouldn’t Israel be self-supporting?
My question is not based on religion or race, rather on history and current events. What does America receive in return from Israel that justifies our position? The rise in muslim hatred is directly tied to the rise in muslim terrorism which endangers all Americans - here and abroad. This hatred is directly related to our support for Israel. What national interest is served in protecting this piece of land?
Economically, normally we demand all military aid go to American arms. Israel alone is free to spend American aid money in other countries to buy arms. And all loans are provided with riders that in essence render them grants. That is not true anywhere else.
So what gives?
I can’t buy the democracy part - especially since the state limits voting to one religious group. Secondly, since no US military is based there, no military alliance is truly formed. Third, without exception, Israel has not once participated in any econnomic or military action in coordination with the US, so a ‘partner’ or ‘ally’ status is hard to justify.
Again, why do we give in excess of billion in aid to this rich country? Why do we defend them against all enemies? Why do we support them dispite their non-compliance with numerous UN resolutions?
I really do want answers!
